Abdominoplasty

Flaunt Your Flat Abs

A flat and well-toned abdomen… you’ve done the crunches. You’ve tried the diets. Yet no matter what you do, you simply can’t achieve your goal. Many men and women strive to have flat, sculpted abs. Even people that are of a normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The doctors at Illinois Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery can help you achieve your goals and give you the confidence needed to love the way you look.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Only those who are physically healthy and at a stable weight should consider having this procedure done. It is not for men or women who are planning to lose a substantial amount of weight, or for women who are considering a future pregnancy.

What to Expect from a Tummy Tuck

There are two types of tummy tucks people can choose from: a full tummy tuck or a mini-tummy tuck. During a full tummy tuck, a horizontal incision is made in the area between the pubic hairline and the navel. The shape and length of the incision are determined by the degree of correction necessary. Through this incision, your physician will repair and suture weakened abdominal muscles, and remove the excess fat, tissue and skin. A second incision may also be made around the belly button to remove excess skin from the upper abdomen.

A mini-tummy tuck does not affect the placement of the belly button, although the lower incision is similar to what is done in a full tummy tuck.

Tummy Tuck Results

Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firm abdomen that is more proportionate with your body type and weight. While the results are technically permanent, a positive outcome can be greatly influenced by fluctuations in your weight. Also, it is important to note that a tummy tuck cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located in the areas of excess skin that will be removed. Within a week or two of surgery, you should be standing tall and confident about your new, slimmer profile.
