Medicare Payment Policy
The complexity and scope of the MACRA law and the new Quality Payment Program it creates present a significant challenge to practicing physicians. Starting in 2017, Medicare changed how it reimburses physicians. There are two tracks for participation under Medicare's Quality Payment Program (QPP):
The majority of plastic surgeons will participate in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which scores providers based on their performance in four categories: Quality, Improvement Activities (IA), Promoting Interoperability (PI) and Cost.
